protein-tyrosine-phosphatase (medicine)

protein-tyrosine-phosphatase
<enzyme> An enzyme group that specifically dephosphorylates phosphotyrosyl residues in selected proteins. Together with protein-tyrosine kinase, it regulates tyrosine phosphorylation and dephosphorylation in cellular signal transduction and may play a role in cell growth control and carcinogenesis.

Chemical name: Protein-tyrosine-phosphate phosphohydrolase

Registry number: EC 3.1.3.48

patron saint (sh)

Saint to whose protection and intercession a person, society, church, place, profession, or activity is dedicated.

The choice is usually made on the basis of some real or presumed relationship (e.g., St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland because he is credited with introducing Christianity there).
