psychosine (medicine) and buthionine sulfoximine (medicine)

psychosine (medicine)

psychosine
<chemical> An intermediate in the biosynthesis of cerebrosides. It is formed by reaction of sphingosine with udp-galactose and then itself reacts with fatty acid-coenzyme a to form the cerebroside.

Chemical name: beta-D-Galactopyranoside, 2-amino-3-hydroxy-4-octadecenyl, (R-(R*,S*-(E)))-

buthionine sulfoximine (medicine)

buthionine sulfoximine
<chemical> A synthetic amino acid that depletes glutathione by irreversibly inhibiting gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase. Inhibition of this enzyme is a critical step in glutathione biosynthesis. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferative response in human T-lymphocytes and inhibit macrophage activation.

Pharmacological action: antimetabolites, antimetabolites, antineoplastic, enzyme inhibitors, radiation-protective agents, radiation-sensitizing agents.

Chemical name: Butanoic acid, 2-amino-4-(S-butylsulfonimidoyl)-
