Peninsula, northeastern Tunisia.

Extending northeast into the Mediterranean Sea, it is about 50 mi (80 km) long. During World War II (1939-45), it was occupied by German troops in retreat from Egypt and Libya (1943); they soon surrendered to the Allied Powers there.
