Pride and Prejudice (oh)
(1813) a novel by Jane Austen about Mr and Mrs Bennet and their daughters. The most important characters are Elizabeth Bennet, a clever and amusing young woman, and the rich, attractive Mr Darcy, who finally realize that they love each other, although previously Elizabeth thought that Darcy was too proud, and he thought that she disliked him without any good reason. The first sentence of Pride and Prejudice is one of the most famous sentences in English literature: "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife".
