City (pop., 2000: 185,951), central Florida, U.S. Settlement began งใ 1844 around an army post.

It was renamed in 1857 to honour Orlando Reeves, an army sentry killed during the Seminole Wars. After 1950 the development of the aerospace complex at Cape Canaveral and, after 1971, of nearby Disney World boosted the city's population and economy. It is also the centre of a citrus farming region.
